ProDirt LLC ("we", "us", or "our") built TrailMapper as a free Android application. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use TrailMapper. By using the app, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
All data you enter into TrailMapper — including property names, trail segment names, GPS coordinates, points of interest, and quoting information — is stored locally on your device using a secure on-device database. This information never leaves your device unless you choose to back it up.
Location Data
TrailMapper uses your device's GPS to record trail segment coordinates while the recording service is active. This data is stored entirely on your device. Location access is only used when you explicitly start a recording session. The app uses a foreground service with a persistent notification while GPS recording is active so you always know when location is being accessed.
Backup and Restore (Optional)
If you choose to use the backup feature, TrailMapper uses Android's Storage Access Framework to save a backup file to a location you select — including Google Drive if you choose it. ProDirt LLC has no access to your backup files. No data is transmitted to ProDirt LLC servers.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your data is used solely to provide TrailMapper's features:
- Recording GPS trail segments as you walk or ride
- Building and displaying connected trail networks on a map
- Exporting trail data as KML or GPX files for use in Google Earth, OnX, or other mapping tools
- Managing points of interest on your trail network
- Generating excavator work quotes tied to trail segments
- Backing up and restoring your data at your request
We do not use your data for advertising, analytics, or any purpose beyond operating the app.
3. Data Storage and Security
All app data is stored locally on your Android device using Android's Room database. Data is stored in the app's private storage area, which is not accessible to other apps. We do not operate any servers and have no access to your data.
4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. The only external services involved are:
- OpenStreetMap / OSMDroid: The app uses OSMDroid to display map tiles. Map tile requests are sent to OpenStreetMap tile servers to display the background map. No personal data or GPS coordinates are included in these requests.
- Android Share Sheet: When you choose to export a KML or GPX file, your device's native sharing system is used. We do not control where you send that file.
- Android Storage Access Framework: Used for backup and export at your explicit request. ProDirt LLC has no visibility into your chosen storage location.
5. Your Rights and Choices
You have full control over your data:
- Delete any trail, property, or point of interest at any time from within the app
- Uninstall the app at any time, which removes all locally stored data
- Revoke location permissions at any time via Android Settings — this will prevent GPS recording
- Delete backup files from whatever storage location you selected
6. Children's Privacy
TrailMapper is intended for use by adult contractors, property owners, and outdoor enthusiasts. We do not knowingly collect information from children under the age of 13. If you believe a child has provided information through the app, please contact us.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the updated effective date above. Continued use of TrailMapper after changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
